Biography

Swedish singer-songwriter MORE THAN JOHN is set to release his debut single, “Wild Mountain Thyme,” on November 10, 2024. With a voice that reflects the quiet intensity of his upbringing in rural Sweden, John Engdahl (aka MORE THAN JOHN) brings his own unique interpretation to this beloved Scottish-Irish folk classic.

Growing up in a small village in southeastern Sweden, John found his passion for music early in life. Far from the big city lights and music industry hubs, he honed his skills in the solitude of nature and a family home filled with music and creativity. This deep connection to place and tradition shapes his approach to music, as reflected in his hauntingly beautiful cover of “Wild Mountain Thyme.”

John’s path took a turn when his talent caught the attention of a family friend with a background in the music industry. Impressed by John’s powerful voice and natural musicianship, this friend encouraged him to share his music with a wider audience. This moment became the catalyst for John’s journey to become the artist he is today.

Produced by Alex Hellid of Entombed, with co-production, recording, and mixing by Linn Fijal, MORE THAN JOHN’s debut single “Wild Mountain Thyme” was brought to life at Riksmixningsverket, a renowned recording studio located in a 150-year-old naval warehouse on Stockholm’s scenic Skeppsholmen island. This unique space, equipped with state-of-the-art gear including the legendary NEVE 8068 console, provided the perfect setting to capture the song’s blend of folk heritage and modern sound. The single was mastered by Frida Claeson-Johansson at Svenska Grammofonstudion Mastering located at the legendary Hansa Studio in Berlin (DE), adding the final touch to this soulful and atmospheric rendition.

MORE THAN JOHN’s debut album, OIIIIO, is set for release on April 19, 2025, coinciding with Record Store Day. Fans can look forward to both digital and physical formats that showcase his distinctive style and storytelling.
